Norton Sec wont allow PDF and Tiff

Hi,

I use Mozilla Thunderbird email client, locally on my Computer, and Norton Security 2015. With Norton Security Smart firewall, I can neither "open" or "save as" locally any PDF or Tiff image file attachements. I can see they are there in my email I recieve, but not do anything with them. But if I temporary turn off the Smart fiewall, it suddenly allow PDF and tiff file attachments to be open and viewed and saved to any folder locally on my computer. My workaround, currently, because I like to have my firewall ON for obvious reasons... I have to go to my webmail in my web browser instead and "save as" to my computer.

Any solutions, settings to stop Norton Security from doing this? I have looked but not found any solution

Thank you
Stefan

Have you tried resetting your firewall?

Perhaps our Guru, @SendOfJive may have a suggestion for you.

I have no idea how the Norton Firewall would even be involved with attachments that have already been downloaded to the local machine.  My best guess it that it may be a Thunderbird attachment-handling misconfiguration:

Re: Norton Sec wont allow PDF and Tiff

There is the possibility that something "interesting & unusual" has "taken over" the default .TIF and .PDF file association types...and if so (that something) may be "blathering in/out" the network pipe...

What installed product does Windows automatically launch (or try to launch) if you double-click either a .TIF or a .PDF document using the Windows Explorer?

I am an illustrator, designer and artist, so the programs opening those file formats, in my case, are corelDRAW, Corel Painter and Corel PHOTO-PAINT. While some others maybe use Photoshop, Gimp, InDesign, Adobe Reader.

No problems opening them from Windows Explorer - Only fails when opening them from inside Thunderbird?
