NetUtils2016.dll

Anybody have any useful information for getting rid of this malware file? I've run Norton Power Eraser and it can't seem to remove it, and I've even had Norton Support do remote access and they can't seem to fix it.

Right now, I'm only using a trial version of Norton and I'm trying to find a solution without having to buy the full version, since I don't have the funds for it right now, and it's frustrating me to no end.

Re: NetUtils2016.dll

Hello Sarah Laine

Please bring your computer to one of the free malware removal sites which we recommend. They will work with you 1 on 1 until your computer is clean. Please stick with them until they say your computer is clean.

Please see this link for an up to date description of these sites plus the addition of a newly listed site formed by one of our successful malware remover users who unfortunately has passed away. That site is still being run by a good expert who happens to be one of the other Gurus.  The new site is listed first in this link.

Please come back and let us know how you made out.

Thanks.

Re: NetUtils2016.dll

Hello Sarah Laine My suggestion, FWIW is to follow the instructions floplot posted earlier in this thread and stick with it. Patience and attention to detail is the only way to get a system clean. Secondarily, download and run this utility from Kaspersky. See if it gets rid of the issue for you. Although this tool is generally for "rootkit" infections it will also detect and remove hidden system processes.

PLEASE let us know whether you have success or not at your earliest convenience.

Cheers

Re: NetUtils2016.dll

Sarah is already using one of the sites listed in floplots link. See Sarah's post above for her thread at qmalwareremoval.freeforums.net/

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: NetUtils2016.dll

Hi Sarah,

If you could, please share the NPE logs with me via private message.

You will find them here: C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Local\NPE

Zip them up and send them over and we will see why NPE failed you.

Thank You,

Jeff

Re: NetUtils2016.dll

Jeff, it seems the files are no longer on my computer. May be because I removed Norton after my trial was up for the time being, but either way I can't help you there, sorry.

As another update on the bright side, the issue has been resolved it seems, you can look in the thread I posted to see how it was resolved.

Re: NetUtils2016.dll

I think this is an excellent example of where an offline scan with NPE (or any tool that works offline in WinPE or Linux) would have had no trouble removing a locked malware because in offline mode nothing is locked because the malware isn't running.
