Norton Security says it has expired when it hasn't

I have Norton Security Deluxe 5 user edition. Today out of the blue, Norton on my WIN7 laptop says it has expired and I can't run it or update or anything. I went to my desktop WIN7/10 machine which one of the 3 seats and it runs fine there and says I have 155 days left on my subscription.  I went on the desktop to contact Norton and got on the chat section with one of their reps who didn't quite get the question and all he wanted to do was have me go to a link so he could remotely control my computer to fix the problem.  I don't like anyone to remotely control my computer, just tell me what I need to do on My Norton to fix this. Does Norton support actually do the remote take over?

Anyway, the Norton chat rep couldn't understand why clicking on a link on a computer that wasn't having the problem would not fix the other computer that actually did have the problem. 

Did anyone see this problem today 1-10-17.

I may just do a system restore

Any response would be appreciated.

Have you checked to see that date and time on your computer is correct? If you chat with Norton support the actual person that remotely takes control of your pc is a Norton tech. You can always try to uninstall and reinstall Norton.

Open Norton and click Help > Subscription Status.  That often resolves the issue.  Also check your system date and time.  If the date is wrong that can cause Norton to shut down, thinking the subscription period has ended.

I broke down and let the Norton chat guy take remote control of the laptop because he was having a hard time walking me through what had to be done. He was referring to icons on screens that didn't appear on my screen for MY Norton.  All he did was go to another screen of MY Norton as I watched and click on a RENEW icon and then Norton started working again under the current subscription.  He then said he needed to take other software off my computer like Malware Bytes (which I haven't used in many months), etc. and that is when I disconnected him. I wrote in because I wanted to see if others were affected the same way yesterday and maybe something bigger was going on.  Still don't know what caused the problem. So it wasn't the date on the computer and it probably could have been solved quicker if the support person had just had my go to the proper page on MY Norton and click on the icon he did without all the remote stuff going on. Live and learn.
