How to whitelist a site?

Hi,

For the life of me, I cannot see how to whitelist a URL. It is http and not https but I know it is safe.

Can someone help please?

Thanks.

Re: How to whitelist a site?

Um, are you the web site owner?
What is the URL / domain name?

Norton Safe Web does not have a local whitelist.
Norton Safe Web Report is global.

Re: How to whitelist a site?

Thanks for the very fast reply bjm.

No, I'm not the site owner. When Norton blocks the site, there is a 'Continue to site' option, so the block is easily overridden, it's just inconvenient.

So it is sounding like there is nowhere locally where I can request that this URL not be validated?

If I have got that right I will have to accept it, but I am surprised.

Re: How to whitelist a site?

Hello Paul. There isn't any settings within the current Norton products to add/edit website URL's. This is due to the Norton product whitelist being delivered within the automatic "live update" sessions as shown in the below screenshot. Hope that helps answer your question. You may want to add that function request in the Product Suggestions Board.

User cannot add URL/s to a local whitelist, under user control.
Norton determines and reports website reputation globally.

Yes, there are browser security extensions that offer local whitelisting.

Re: How to whitelist a site?

Indeed. Opera uses the Chrome extensions from Norton and has the following available. Its the same for the Chrome browser as well.

Re: How to whitelist a site?

Well, I was not thinking of creating my own whitelist of safe websites that automatically blocks all other sites.
= Whitelist Manager browser extension <here>.

Well, I was thinking of web filter browser extensions that allow local exclusions >

  • Emsisoft Browser Security
  • Malwarebytes Browser Guard

Re: How to whitelist a site?

Hello

The Norton Safe Web Team can put a site on a Norton Insight WhiteList but that is at the request of site owner usually. If I had the name of the site, I could ask the Safe Web Team if they could do it.

Thanks.

Re: How to whitelist a site?

Scam Insight mostly works on heuristic based detection [on the fly detection with no database], it is implemented on Norton toolbar.

It make use of inputs like

1. Does it ask for personal information like credit card, SSN, login information,

2. How new this site is,

3. How many users visited it till now,

4. Suspicious whois info

5. Does it have any suspicious scam keywords

Since Scam Insight works on client side and it is on the fly detection, on fairly new sites, it may happen that site is rated as Untested in SafeWeb.

Some users see it and others don't

This issues might be because some users/system/browser might have disable Norton toolbar or Scam Insight might have difficulty in collecting above mentioned details.

Note: Usually if websites get more users, scam insight starts trusting this site and reclassifies it as safe.
