NOBU keep incorrectly stating there's not enough storage space

I helped my friend buy a computer and I recommended he pay for Online Backup once the trial period ended. His storage space is 25GB and the total amount of data to backup is 19.83GB. Yet, EVERY TIME I try to backup Norton comes back with an error saying there's not enough space to complete the backup.

There IS ENOUGH SPACE!!!

Your software says THERE IS!!!

The online chat is friendly, but worthless, since all they do is keep saying I'm trying to save too much. Umm...again, your software is saying there's enough space before the process starts.

Can someone help with this? Someone who actually knows how to fix it and isn't someone that's going to tell me that somehow...someway...it's actually my fault their service doesn't work???

Thank you!

Re: NOBU keep incorrectly stating there's not enough storage space

Hello

Does the usage meter in the upper right show any space used yet?

How did you select files for backup - category or manually adding files/folders?

Re: NOBU keep incorrectly stating there's not enough storage space

Hi Wesley,

Before starting the backup process it says 0% of 25 GB is used. All files are selected via the check marks, which calculates to 19.83 GB. Once it starts the meter shows everything is fine for a number of hours. Then, when going back later to check, it gives the 'not enough space' error message. This has happened multiple times.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kind regards,

Chris

Re: NOBU keep incorrectly stating there's not enough storage space

Hi Chris

Can you also answer my question on how you're selecting files? There is a likely chance that if you're using the categories method of selection its grabbing a system folder that is causing the abnormal behavior.

Re: NOBU keep incorrectly stating there's not enough storage space

Sorry, I thought that when I said "all files are selected via the check marks", that indicated I was using Norton's own categories method of selection. None of the files are being chosen individually.

If Norton is grabbing a system folder, what's the solution? Selecting individual files, especially with thousands of pictures, is not acceptable in this case.

Thanks,

Chris

Re: NOBU keep incorrectly stating there's not enough storage space

You can either create an advanced rule to purposely exclude an entire folder or the alternative of what I suggested. You don't have to select thousands of files individually or folders if you have your pictures located in one place. The average user keeps their pictures where Windows tries to direct you to place t hem - Pictures or My Pictures. Adding that folder and de-selecting the Pictures category should help you resolve the issue. If you have them elsewhere provide some details of how you have things setup so we can better help advise you.

Re: NOBU keep incorrectly stating there's not enough storage space

I'm having the same problem as this guy. I have unchecked ALL the boxes - pictures, music, video, etc. - and just entered the four hard drive folders where I store these items. I have 125 GB purchased storage; the backup says my files total 104 GB...YET IT STILL KEEPS SAYING I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH STORAGE. This is extremely frustrating.

Re: NOBU keep incorrectly stating there's not enough storage space

Have you tried any of what I suggested throughout this post? You're likely encountering some if not all of the same scenario described.
