Back up & Retrieving it

I had upgraded from Norton Security to Norton 360 Premier edition when my subscription ran out i have a desktop & a Laptop so have it on both

I have had problems with both so have uninstalled & reinstalled it

Then yesterday my laptop really got a problem kept saying can't load XPCOM so i went back to factory setting & have to reinstall everything

This morning i am trying to get to look at my back up that i did which says it only has around 4gb of the 25gb of storage used this when backing didn't allow me to back up files i wanted anyway but today it saying i need to resub so i then tried to click do not renew & that don't work so my question is

How do you set you back up so you can keep files say & get them back if you need to

Also how do you add norton tool bar to firefox as that is the internet browser i am using

Re: Back up & Retrieving it

Hi aitkens64.

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums.

Sorry you are having problems.  I am not sure I understand what has been happening with your system so please forgive me if I get something wrong.  I will see if I can help you with the backup/restore issues but as this is the "Backup" forum you might get a better response about the toolbar on Firefox if you post that question in the "Norton Toolbar/Identity Safe" forum.

So on to backup.  Are you saying that you believe that you did do a successful backup to the Norton online servers, but cannot get back the data?

If you did a full reinstall you may need to log back on to the servers using the email address and password that you normally use with your Norton account (not the ones you use with these forums).  You should also be able to look at your online backup by logging directly into the online backup at

https://nobu.backup.com/n360.

A third way to try and see the backup that you have made is to look at "My Computer" with Windows Explorer when connected to the internet and you should see the Norton Backup Drive.  Open that and you should see the backup.

Hopefully one of the above will enable you to see the backup that you made before.  If not let us know what fails and where.

Obviously you should be able to make a backup with N360 and retieve the data after the event, that is the purpose of backups.  If you cannot find the old backup after checking the ideas above then maybe we need to try doing a simple backup and testing that it works.  Hopefully that will not be necessary.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Re: Back up & Retrieving it

Hi aitkens64.

Glad the backup seems to have worked but don't just rely on crossed fingers, check it and be sure!

Open N360: Backup: Restore Files, then select the backup set and "Browse Files and Folders" to check that what you would expect to be there, is there.  Better still, try restoring one or two files (to a new location is probably best so that nothing important gets overwritten, should the backup be faulty).  Then you can see that at least some of the files really do come back.

If that all works then you should be able to relax a bit.

Good luck and do let us know what you decide to do and how you get on.

Re: Back up & Retrieving it

Glad it worked aitkens64.

The reason it creates a folder called C drive is probably because you told it to restore to a new location and it wanted to show where it had come from before, if you see what I mean...

I believe that if you had not asked it to restore to a new location it may just have overwritten the original file on the disk and you would have had nothing to compare with..

It is a feature of having Norton backup.  It is actually just a representation of what it there but it can be very helpful.  So if you need Norton Backup, you need it.

This had nothing to do with you restoring to a new location.

All the best.
