Norton tool bar on FireFox

Hi can someone help.

Iv loaded Firefox 42.0 and I have got the Norton Tool Bar but there is no Norton Identity Safe on it or Facebook. Iv down loaded all downloads and Patches for Norton 360 witch it says its for Firefox but Firefox extensions says it has not been verified for use in Firefox. Iv also gone back to Firefox 41 with no joy.

Re: Norton tool bar on FireFox

The Norton Toolbar is now partially compatible with Firefox 41 & 42. We have released a Firefox 41 & 42 compatibility patch for Norton Security 22.5.4.24, Norton Security with Backup 22.5.4.24, Norton Internet Security, Norton 360, Norton Antivirus 22.5.4.24 & Norton Security Suite 22.5.4.24 which is available via Live Update.

1) This patch will enable the Web-Protection functionalities of the Norton Toolbar such as: Safe Web, Anti-Phishing, Safe Search

2) There will be a separate firefox patch to add the Identity Safe functionalities such as: Logins, Cards, Share via etc.,

RE: Norton Identity safe could not be verified for operation with Firefox.
Proceed with caution message: indicates new version 2015.5.6.76 signature needs to be verified by Mozilla.
Norton is working with Firefox to get the Toolbar verified soon and a separate patch will be released to address this.

FF41 & FF42 offers same partial function Toolbar.

Re: Norton tool bar on FireFox

How do I unistall the 2015.5.6.76 update?  I'm still on Firefox 40 and didn't realize the update would remove functionality from the older version as well.  The login vault is the prime feature I'm interested in, and the workarounds for Firefox are too cumbersome to be of use.

Sorry, in major version e.g., v22.x LiveUpdates are not granular.   LiveUpdates are automatic and not removable.
You may Disable Identity Safe v2015.5.6.76

We have released a new version of the Norton Toolbar that is compatible with Mozilla Firefox versions 40, 41, and 42.

The Norton Toolbar extension includes the following features.

  • Safe Web

  • Antiphishing

  • Safe Search

Unfortunately, the following features are not available in this release.

  • Norton Identity Safe

The Norton Toolbar now has limited compatibility with Firefox 41 & 42.

How would disabling the feature I actually want to use be of help?  It would have been helpful to know that the update for FF 41 would *break* the functionality for FF 40 at the same time.

Well, perhaps since "limited compatibility" does not satisfy.  You'd feel more comfortable by Disable.
Yes, it would have been helpful.   Had we/you known.  The update would still be pushed.
Sorry!

Norton and Firefox are the epitome  of the Peter principle

What I would really like to know is wen we will get reimbursed for the month plus of only partial functionality?

Re: Norton tool bar on FireFox

Norton will simply point their finger at Mozilla, and pass the blame to them and we'll be screwed over.

If Norton had any sense (which it doesn't seem like), they would apologize to their customers and tack on an extra three months on to everyone's subscription.   The good will and loyalty they could earn would be worth a heck of a lot more than the three month freebie they hand out.

The folks who make Tylenol did it right, during the product tampering scare back in 1986.   They recalled everything, issued refunds and gained the public's trust to do the right thing.   Now Tylenol is the leader of the pack and has a huge market share, because they have the public's trust.

When my subscription is about to run out, I'm going to look around and see what else it out there.   Norton has a damaged product and reputation they need to fix.

Re: Norton tool bar on FireFox

WOW, Norton management must be  short selling their stock, they are really trying to lose customers, first they don't support Firefox 42, ok, not problem dropped back to 40, then an update appeared today that screwed that up, after 20+ years (most likely longer, just don't want to check, but was back in days when Peter has some control) of trusting Norton, they are really attempted to destroy all of that.  Time to think about dropping them long before 7+ installs on my machines and the other 30+ of other people at our company expire.  If they can't get updates right, how can security be trusted now.  Tell me how a security company can't get signing right?

I can offer a solution to original post, find another product.

Re: Norton tool bar on FireFox

Hi,

Is there already an ETA on when Norton Identity Safe is going to be supported in FF >=42?

I really liked the Vault, but will do without it until NIS is fixed (dropping back to older FF releases is a no-go IMHO).

In the meantime: It is better to have a good working update than half an update fast
