have a Big Problem with NS !

Hello

Today, when i run the Full Scan with norton , i see this:

see that? 100 % Disk usage !!! but my system is clean. maybe you should know i setup this program today --->  AVG TuneUp

And what percentage disk usage is shown when the Norton scan has finished?

Have you restarted your computer? If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

after scan Disk usage : between 0 & 8 %

i turned off fast startup but still when i run full scan disk usage : 100% !

How many scans have you run with this result?

Did you have another security software on your system before installing Norton? If so, how did you remove it? You need to use the removal utility for that program

Other users with this issue have found that reinstalling Norton has resolved the issue.  The easiest way is to accomplish this is by downloading and running the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from   www.norton.com/nrnr

Why would you care if you are not doing anything else on your PC at the time?

Are you using AVG Turbo Mode or Live Optimization?

Hello mrparham!

You actually have NO problem with Norton Security - at least not with the "Full System Scan" function!

Both CPU, Memory and Disk Usage values tell me - and You and others - that your operating system (Windows 8.x, or is it Win7?) and NS (and all other running programs and services) are using the full TRANSFER capacity when reading (mostly) all of  your system, program and data files from your "Hard Drive"/"Disk". Notice that Norton Security is NOT taking all (100%) of the transfer capacity (maximum reading and writing speed): Other programs can, and will, do reading and writing operations from/to your "Hard Drive"/"Disk" during Nortons "Full System Scan", at least on all modern systems that are using SATA or other very effective "Hard Drive"/"Disk" interfaces. (Very old systems with then standard IDE/ATA interfaces could only handle one read or write operation at a time, which made the whole computer VERY slow, when a program read and/or wrote a lot of data from/to the hard drive/disk.)

I am quite sure that You have a computer that is as powerful as mine, with a "super fast" CPU and a lot of physical memory (RAM). I also guess that both You and I have a MECHANICAL hard disk drive; in my case that is a very fast Western Digital WD7500BPKT drive, that has physical discs/plates running at 7200 RPM and an Average Latency of 4.2ms. Both this drive and my laptop are connected (internally) with the SATA 3.0 Gbit/s interface.

When I run a "Full System Scan" (manually, about once per month), it takes NS about 51 minutes to check all of my circa 1 millions of small and big system, program and data files, which is as fast as expected. When I monitor the performance of my computer during a "Full System Scan", I also get 100% disk activity under most of these 51 minutes. Like You, both the CPU and the memory values are very low, because Norton Security, in combination with the Windows operating system (in my case Windows 10 Home, 64-bit), are working so efficiently when checking all these files for all known threats.

Now an important comparison with another computer/laptop, bought at the same time (for my wife), which also has Windows 10 Home, 64-bit and Norton Security version 22.5.5.15. This computer is also very fast for ordinary work (mostly for surfing the web and handling of e-mail), but it has a much slower CPU, only Intels integrated GPU and only half the amount of physical memory (4GB RAM, compared to my computer's 8GB). BUT! - This (my wife's) computer has NO mechanical "Hard Drive"/"Disk". Instead it has a 128GB super fast Solid State Drive (SSD).

When I do a "Full System Scan" on THIS (my wife's) computer, the Task Manager in Windows shows COMPLETELY DIFFERENT values for CPU, Memory and Disk usage: The CPU is almost all the time working at 100%, as is the memory usage. But the Disk usage (i.e. how often the connection between the "Disk" (in this case a Solid State Drive) is in use/active) is only now and then reaching 100%, since Norton Security and Windows can read all the files etc. "in no time", compared to my computer's slower mechanical Hard Disk Drive.

My wife's "slower" computer has "only" circa half a million of files etc. on her "disk", but because this "disk" is a "Solid State Drive", and I don't use the computer for "anything" else during a "Full System Scan", Norton checks all these files etc. in only 22 minutes. (I.e. a "Full System Scan" runs equally fast on my wife's computer as on mine, despite all the differences.)

With mechanical hard disk drives, it is always good to defragment/optimize each partition on each drive/disk, as You already know. Norton Security does this now and then, when the computer is "idle", but the built-in program/function in especially Windows 10 (found in the "Administrative Tools" menu) is much more effective, since it also moves around files etc. which results in fewer and bigger areas with continuous free space.

Conclusion: It is GOOD that Norton Security/Windows use all the available disk transfer capability/speed.
(Imagine if Usain Bolt had used only 50% of his maximum capacity/speed when running in the finals of the Olympics and the World Championships - Then even he would not have won these races.)
