Vault - 2 Factor Authentication

Hi All
I have VIP 2 Factor Authentication set for my main Norton Account which is great, however unless I'm missing something I'm surprised (amazed actually) that the Norton ID Safe Password Vault only requires 1 password to unlock all of your secure and important passwords you use day to day.

I have managed to log into my password fault without 2 Factor challenge via the IE Toolbar as well as the following URL - https://identitysafe.norton.com/vaultLogin

Am I missing a setting within Identity Safe to turn on 2 Factor Authentication for the Vault or is it that 2 Factor Auth just isn't available for the Vault?

I haven't tried accessing my vault from another computer yet, just my home PC that is trusted within my Norton Account.

Many thanks

Re: Vault - 2 Factor Authentication

You can't access the Identity Safe vault unless you first log into your Norton Account.  Therefore, the vault is protected by two passwords and 2-step identification.  Requiring additional 2FA for the vault would be redundant.

Re: Vault - 2 Factor Authentication

The reason you only have to enter the vault password is because you remain signed into your Norton Account through your Norton product. Looking at the main Norton screen, you will see Signed in as (your email address). Unless you manually log out from there, you only have to enter the one vault password.

ID Safe does not have its own 2 factor authentication.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Just FYI for anyone interested in setting up two-step verification for their Norton Account, you can find the information here:

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v100023155_No...

It is highly recommended that you set up two factor authentication for all of your online accounts where it is offered.

Re: Vault - 2 Factor Authentication

Hi All

Tested this on public PC and as explained above I had to first authenticate to my main Norton Account, provide the 2 Factor Auth and then I was asked for my Vault password.

Many thanks

Re: Vault - 2 Factor Authentication

Nevertheless, wouldn't it be much safer if Norton offered 2FA for the vault?

Currently many users are  logged on to Norton permanently, opening and closing the vault when needed (isn't that how safes and vaults are meant to behave - even more difficult to penetrate than the walls/windows surrounding them). But even after you close the Norton vault a virus or worm can simply guess or record the password.

If Norton vault supported FIDO U2F you would open it by pressing a button on a cheap USB dongle. Something a virus couldn't do.

That would be super-convenient and much safer.
