Norton Security Stopped Working After Product Update

Hi,

I ran liveupdate today and it downloaded 58.64MB and then applied the updates and asked for a restart. So I clicked "restart now" and after that Norton Security no longer opens or shows up in the system tray.

What should I do? Run NRT?

Restart again. Sometimes that helps.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

I tried that and it didn't help.

It says under program files I have 22.8.1.14 but it won't work. Also under This PC is a folder called Norton Backup Drive which wasn't ever there before.

Re: Norton Security Stopped Working After Product Update

Solved.

I downloaded Norton Security which was a pain in the backside. If I logged into my Norton Account and clicked download it'd just tell me I had no licenses left. So I remembered the URL to download the latest version and did that.

Next I ran NRT and then restarted. I installed Norton Security and immediately ran liveupdate and now I'm on 22.8.1.14 and everything is working or appears to be.

This PC is a folder called Norton Backup Drive which wasn't ever there before.

You see this if you are using Norton Security Premium. It includes a backup feature. This folder is for the backups made with that feature.

@SGFC: If you're new to NSG, you had better have a look at it now.

Hello SGFC

I first downloaded the large file and it said to restart. I restarted and tried running Live Update and there were more files to run. Did you get the 2nd bunch of files SGFC?

Thanks.

"You see this if you are using Norton Security Premium. It includes a backup feature. This folder is for the backups made with that feature."

Which makes no sense because I have Norton Security Standard. So maybe liveupdate sent me the wrong updates. Unless a product key could trigger that but I had customer support combine my product keys. One was for standard and one was for premium. I've never installed NS Premium either.

I ran liveupdate and it downloaded 58.64MB, applied the updates, then asked to restart. So I restarted and then it wouldn't open Norton. So there was no way to run liveupdate again.

But the problem is solved I just had to use NRT and install NS again.

Re: Norton Security Stopped Working After Product Update

If the rep combined a standard key with the Premium, you would in fact now have Premium installed. Does the main NS screen show a backup button? If so you have Premium installed.

Did you have 360 on the computer before moving to NS? That could also explain it.

Re: Norton Security Stopped Working After Product Update

@peterweb

No 360 or Premium and no backup on the interface.

So I'm not sure why when the product update failed there was a Norton Backup Drive folder under This PC (My Computer).
