ASK ME WHY I AM SWITCHING FROM NORTON AFTER 10 YEARS

AFTER 10 YEARS IF USING NORTON INTERNET SECUTIRY, i REALIZED THAT MY DAILY RUNNING OF "LIVE UPDATE" AND SCAN WAS DOING NOTHING BUT GIVING ME A WARM AND FUZZY FEELING...NOT EVER DETECTING AND REMOVINIG ANY VIRUSES OR WORMS AT ALL.  THAT IS EXACTLY 0 FIXES IN 10 YEARS.  IT TOOK MY FIRST VIRUS TO WAKE ME UP TO THIS -- AND I BOTH DETECTED IT, AND FIXED (REMOVED) IT.  i DETECTED IT, NOT NORTON, WHEN i USED GOOGLE TO TAKE ME TO AMAZON.COM BUT ENDED UP WITH A RUSSIAN WEBSITE ON MY SCREEN.

I SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER, AND RESTRARTED BY USING NIS TO PEROFORM A RULL COMPUTER SCAN.  NIS DID, AND AS USUAL, TOLD ME THAT NOTHING WAS FOUND AND MY COMPUTER WAS SAFE (SORRY NIS, WRONG!)

SO I TRIED AMAZON AGAIN, BUT ENDED BACK ON A RUSSIAN WEBSITE.  THE VIRUS WAS STILL PRSENT AND DOING ITS THING, AND NORTON NIS COMPLETELY MISSED IT, LET ALONE REMOVE IT!

NEXT CAME THE OBVIOUS QUESTION: WHAT BENEFIT DID I RECEIVE FOR THE WELL OVER $11,000. OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS?  aNSWER: NORTON GAVE ME A "WARM AND FUZZY" FEELING, BUT NO OTHER BENEFIT!  NOT ONE!!!!  nORTAN NIS HAS NEVER DETECTED ANY REAL VIRUS IN MY SYSTEM (EXCLUDING 1 ON ONE OF THE LEGENDAY COMPUTER REPAIR FLOPPY DISKS, WHICH OF COURSE NORTON CAN'T REPAIR.  ALL NORTON DID FOR ME WAS TO HELP ME BLOW AWAY $11,000 IN RETURN FOR NOTHING BUT NORTON BS!

THERE IS A REAL NEED FOR WHAT NORTON PURPORTS TO SELL.  HOPEFULLY, IN THE NEAR FUTURE, SOMEONE WILL SURFACE WITH A SELUTION.  NORTON DOESN'T HAVE IT.

Redirects as you describe can also be caused by things other than malware on your machine.  What malware did you find and remove?  Also, all antivirus products do miss things occasionally.  None of them makes you bulletproof.  10 years without any malware at all is pretty good, actually, especially if one does not take other precautions, such as managing JavaScript in the browser.

Re: ASK ME WHY I AM SWITCHING FROM NORTON AFTER 10 YEARS

Hello Kludgemaster. How did you eradicate this? If you'd be so kind could you post a screenshot of the detection as it was when you found it? That would be very beneficial in determining exactly what was finally detected and why is was being missed. In case you don't know how here is how to post a screenshot to the forums for viewing: https://community.norton.com/en/forums/how-post-image-forums-0

That most definitely is an issue. Reading your post it appears that you have/had a browser hijacking PUP which Norton doesn't usually detect since it concentrates on the more "destructive" natured malware and viruses which cause serious damage to systems. In today's internet environment even safe sites and their webmasters do not keep up with what content they have on their websites. A simple opening of a website will download malware as it will automatically look for unpatched and vulnerable software to exploits based on the users machine permissions level. Malwarebytes is an excellent complimentary program to install side-by-side with Norton products and is fully compatible. It specializes in detection of PUP (potentially unwanted programs) and removal of them. Its totally FREE as well: https://www.malwarebytes.com/

Also could you include your operating system its version, default browser and version as well as the version of your Norton product? The latest version should read 22.11.0.41. We will be more than happy to help you get to an answer about this as quickly as possible.

Cheers

WOW. Over $1000 a year for your Norton. You must have gotten a real deal.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
