Identity safe has disappeared from Firefox

I restarted my computer, and Identity safe has disappeared from Firefox. The Norton toolbar is there, and I can click on toolbar options and "Open Identity Safe Options", even log into IS, but it's not showing on the toolbar and not filling forms. I was running Firefox 40.0.3 and tried upgrading to 42.0. Same behavior in both versions. IS is enabled when I check my extensions in Firefox, although it does say "Norton Identity Safe could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution". I tried disabling and re-enabling it with no luck. It works just fine in Internet Explorer. Any ideas?

Re: Identity safe has disappeared from Firefox

Thanks bjm as this confirms what I am seeing.  I have been ignoring the newest Firefox update as it would disable the Norton Toolbar and now the Norton Toolbar update a complete waste of time as the main ingredient, Identity safe, is missing.  Without the identity safe I have no need for the Norton Toolbar.  I have even reverted versions of Firefox on several computers so the Identity Safe would work but now I have to uninstall the entire Norton Product and Firefox so that I have what I have paid for.  The last N360 version update removed the network map that I used regularly.    I have used Norton products since MS DOS and I am starting to agree with others that it just isn't worth the headaches anymore, especially with the cost involved.  They take away what I need and give me what they want me to have. .  I just duno

Re: Identity safe has disappeared from Firefox

Norton was forced to re-build due to Mozilla change that was in the best interest of Firefox users.
As offered in KB.  Perhaps, alternative browser and I'm sure work is ongoing.
Norton aim is to re-build Firefox Toolbar more in-line with Chrome Toolbar.
So, that each FF update may not require Toolbar update.

However, you are referring to Firefox 41/42...I and others who have lost ID safe are running Firefox 40, NOT 41/42. I have a second computer also running

Firefox 40 and all is well and normal with Norton toolbar and ID Safe. Why the difference?

Sorry, no clue.  I'm at FF42

As stated in my original post, I have the same problem with Firefox 40. It was working great, but then after a restart, Identity Safe was gone. It has to be a Norton update.

Re: Identity safe has disappeared from Firefox

I have computers that I reverted to FF40 just to get the identity safe back after Firefox did an automatic update but now the Norton update replaced the toolbar with the new one that has nothing on it (nothing that I want or need).  I'm sure they are working on it but why not either give the consumer the choice of installing the PARTIAL update or wait until the entire update is finished.  I'm getting the impression they think we are all stupid.  Another browser sounds like a good idea but I have all of my settings and bookmarks synced through Firefox between 5 computers so that would take allot of time to change over.

Sorry, you went back to FF40 to find same.  I may offer while the posted article Firefox 41 and 42 Limited Support for Norton Toolbar notes 41 and 42.  At the bottom of the article is the link Compatibility of Norton Toolbar and Norton Identity Safe with Mozilla Firefox Knowledge Base   that offers "We have released a new version of the Norton Toolbar that is partially compatible with Mozilla Firefox versions 40, 41, and 42".  I am not privy to why the numbers vary.

Re: Identity safe has disappeared from Firefox

It baffles me that Symantec broke compatibility for FF40 at the same time, some would think that the developers would make use of actual version checks to keep backwards compatibility instead of removing it completely.
Also the amount of time it takes to fix an rather simple extension... one good developer would have been done with it within a week, is everything coded in China these days?

Re: Identity safe has disappeared from Firefox

At the time I reverted to FF40, Norton hadn't released the update but Firefox disabled the toolbar as being incompatible.  I reverted to FF40 and disabled the automatic update and got the identity save back.  I was holding off on updating Firefox until Norton released an update that made it compatible with the Firefox updates.  Finally the wonderful, beautiful update arrived and installed itself.  Restart Firefox and there is my new Norton Toolbar, kinda.  Wait, there is only a small part there, the part that I never even look at.  What happened.  I have hundreds of logins for work and home and that is why I use it.  While it is nice to tell me that a page is safe, it's like giving me a paycheck stub without paying me.  Disappointed and frustrated.  To revert versions of Firefox is easy, Norton 360, not so much.

Hello movingelys2

The ID Safe part of the Norton Toolbar for Firefox is being worked on currently. You can still access the passwords and copy, paste them for now. Or you can use either Chrome or IE until phase 2 is completed. Sorry about the inconvenience. The toolbar is being rebuilt completely using the model of the Chrome Toolbar. That way, it won't have to be updated for every Firefox update.. From what I hear, it works better from FF 42.

Thanks.

Re: Identity safe has disappeared from Firefox

That will be a welcome relief.  I learned a long time ago that I don't just update Firefox because the thing that seems to always be affected is the Norton Toolbar/Identity Safe.  I totally understand that it is being worked on but from where I stand, after doing everything I could to keep the functionality of identity safe in Firefox, I was totally undercut by Norton with an update that effectively gave me nothing and took away what I had.  Don't understand the logic there.  I will wait for the update (obviously).  I do appreciate the replies.  This thread at least confirmed and explained what I was seeing so thanks again.

Re: Identity safe has disappeared from Firefox

I had an online chat with Norton support last night. I was told the flimsy excuse that FF41 etc etc etc. Then he said FF 40, 41 and 42 were not working with Norton.

I said 7 calendar days to repair the Norton toolbar with full functionality or I want my money back and if that proves to be a problem...state atty office. He said to please wait 7-10 days at which I disconnected.

The excuse that Norton did not want to fix the troubles twice is ridiculous...if such is the case, then they knew they were selling me a defective product.

Cut and paste passwords? Norton advises AGAINST using the clipboard.

I have downloaded my passwords and backups to my computer in preparation to "moving on".

Re: Identity safe has disappeared from Firefox

So any idea when the product will be fixed?  I have found that I use the identity safe a fair amount for not only passwords but the wallet and the form fill feature and it is a real pain.  I started using Chrome and the identity safe works but there are too many other things that don't for me to use it efficiently.  I do have one computer at work that ID Safe still works in Firefox as Norton couldn't update it without permission so it kept the working setup.  Still can't fathom why they put out an update that knowingly make the Norton product not functional, even with versions of Firefox that it was working with. Re: Identity safe has disappeared from Firefox

Hello movingelys2

The thing that broke the camel's back was the fact that the versions before version Firefox 41 and earlier used the part that was old and Firefox had removed it. That removal caused the security of the products to be in jeopardy.  To rebuild the Norton Toolbar from the beginning they had to remove that obsolete part and without that part, the earlier versions can't work.

There is now a partial Norton Toolbar for Firefox 42 that has partial compatibility. If you have read the latest Announcement, it said they would release parts as they are completed. They did not give any dates since they most users would get angry if it wasn't ready exactly on the promised date. That happened before the phase 1 was released. That was supposed to be done around the end of Oct. and it came out within the first couple of days of Nov., but everyone got angry that it was a few days late. To avoid issues like that, they don't announce dates before hand. They did say some parts would be released before the end of the year, but not to expect any Announcements before the end of the year. I think, but am not sure that the Auto-fill ins might be released before the end of the year. As far as rebuilding the Toolbar, nothing is written in stone, but it will get done. I guess you have to keep the faith and have lots of patience. Just about everyone is angry about this including non-Firefox users.

Tuesday night saw the release of some Patch for some consumers which was 1 NS patch but it didn't change the version of NS or NSBU. We don't know what it was for. We meaning the Gurus. Gurus in case you don't know are users like yourself who have been helping Norton consumers with the products and have a connection with some of the Symantec Employees. We are not Norton Employees.

Thanks.
