Re: NSv22 and Pulse Updates

That's my read of the available info.  It's 80% in the cloud.  That is 80% of the protection is cloud based.
Hence, the query.  How do you scan wo internet access.   Just what I read.  IDK

Re: NSv22 and Pulse Updates

You scan without internet access using what signatures are on disk along with all the heuristic, behavioral, etc. features. I would think it would not be crippled when the net is down, it would just have less "insight" information to go on (the cloud based part is still the "insight" feature like before, really).

Re: NSv22 and Pulse Updates

Guys.. and what about that NISv21 was scanning when you are away from your PC, this isn't with the new NSv22, is it?

I mean.. when i'm away NS does not do a fast scan like in NISv21..

The virus defs / signatures are also in the cloud.  afaik?

Re: NSv22 and Pulse Updates

Ok, XP machine with NS, same amount of files scanned, with NIS 14 it used to take about 45 mins the first full system and about 35 mins all subsequent full scans.

With NS v.22 first full system scan took 59 minutes, so I do not really understand that "cloud based" theory.

Also, XP users, be sure to disable NTB with both  FF 32.03 & IE8 because major issues when NTB enabled, search a bit on the forum my recent posts.

Another major issue is that system is taking about 40% more time to shutdown, (unacceptable), and Krusty13 mentionned that on his W7 systems NS  v.22 causes systems to refuse to shutdown. (loop).

Re: NSv22 and Pulse Updates

V22 still gets all kinds of definitions downloaded including virus definitions. The Pulse Updates were very frequent to keep the virus definitions as current as possible but now that is stored in the cloud and v22 looks to the cloud for the virus definitions first. If the cloud is down then it uses the local definitions which won't be as up to date.

Re: NSv22 and Pulse Updates

Yeah but SONAR doesn't work for new variants not in the local def's if you're not internet connected.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: NSv22 and Pulse Updates

So, two quick questions : Is it possibe to use the intelligent update from www.norton.com/iu and what about the level of protection when machine is offline and an infected device is being accessed?

Re: NSv22 and Pulse Updates

@what about the level of protection when machine is offline@

It is low. What is more here to say... NIS 21 is much better product. New NS is very weak with all this "cloud" scanning. What if virus blocks internet? Ridiculous.

Re: NSv22 and Pulse Updates

" What if virus blocks internet?"

Hello,

I believe that if Virus block internet there is not much to do for version 21 too. (if the signature is not at the local db because not yet added or downloaded via Pulse Updates).

However, Norton has several layers of protection.

Just my opinion.
