Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

Anybody aware of website issues with Norton.  Am unable to log in to my cloud vault as it times out.  Read the fix and was able to get into my vault at identity safe so went to Norton to download the remove and install tool and lo and behold, it sat there not seeming to down load and then 1%.  by the time I gave up (about 20 or so minutes) it was up to 4% and sloooooooow.   Decided not to wait and must be server problems.  Found a site that showed issues today and later seemed to be working so tried several times again  with no luck so tried the tool again and after about 5 minutes was 3%.

Have to believe my install is OK as got in when I installed Norton 360 earlier today and do have the correct password.  Think I just need to wait until tomorrow.  Wish I could bring back my local vault for Win 8.1!!!!!!

Thanks

Re: Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

Hi Dave,

I just downloaded the NRnRT here in Mississippi and it took all of about 6 seconds - of course I am on Broadband (Comcast) - so it may be an area thing with your situation.

The standard Norton answer is to wait 24 hours and try again - sorry not more help!

Re: Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

Thanks Yank,

Strange goings on.since I could get to my passwords on the identity safe website I thought I didn't need to reinstall norton 360 but, this AM still could not log in so tried again for the tool and while not slow like last nite, finally downloaded and reinstalled Norton 360 and amazingly I can now get into my vault.  Hurray.  Seems the Norton web site states to reinstall 360 only if you can't reach your vault on Identity Safe however I could reach it so reinstalling Norton fixed the problem so far???

Simply incorrect information on the login times out on the Norton site.  Perhaps you can pass on to Norton my problem and the sometimes extremely slow download.  Tried on two different computers on my network and both equally slow but, other downloads not slow so doubt it is me.

Thanks and I'll report back later today about the dropdowns continuing to work on my new computer   Strangly on the old computer dropdowns still working after 2 hours???  Will wait until tonight or tomorrow to report as am installing programs on the new computer which might require a reboot and ruin any reports.

Finally good to go, I hope.  By the way, do you know anything about Firefox defaulting to Win 8.1 in making it the default browser. In firefox I click the make it default and brings up a windows window to default programs??  Perhaps a "feature" of Win 8??

Thanks,

Re: Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

Dave, I am not an avid FF user, but have heard something about the update to FF34 changing the default Search engine to Yahoo.  As I understand it, if you use the Update to FF 34 from the Help About (within FF) it will give you FF 34.0 and a pop-up asking about search engine - it asked me if I wanted to keep Google.  However if you do a fresh install of FF - you will get version 34.0.5 - which I believe has some glitches with the Yahoo search engine as the default - in Win 8.    Hope this helps some or someone else can add more info.  I know I changed my Default Search back to Google on my other Win 7 system after updating to 34.0.5.

I have similar issue where I cannot access the Vault nor the account, I changed the password, but it is the same problem.

I made a call twice to Tech Support with no solution!

Re: Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

Reinstall your program using the remove and reinstall tool and fixed my problem.  Doesn't take too long and no long download of the program.  Fixed my problem and might yours.  This is for the cloud vault.  Don't know about local.

Yank,

Downloaded an earlier version of Firefox and upgraded to 34.05 thru the about firefox dropdown and no problem keeping google as search engine.  Even set it as default,  Have to be careful to not change it accidentally when typing in the box as it drops down showing all the other engines.  Thanks for the heads up but, when I went to the firefox site it didn't give me the latest version and glad.

By the way, found the answer about default browser, They default to windows 8 to determine default programs.

Re: Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

Interesting Yank, I did that by accident yesterday and now the dropdown only shows the change search engine wording and clicking it brings up the search function from options where one can set anything as the default and change back and forth.  Not sure what the go to pre FF34 with the next bunch of steps so happy the way I accidentally changed it.  Not sure if I want to make the config change or not until I know what I am doing and have three computers all FF34 so if you can tell me, appreciate it.

As to the dropdowns, story, have been busy most of last nite and today moving files from my old computer to the new on and hadn't even though of hitting the dropdowns and because of the changes, had both computers on all nite so after seeing your post I tried hitting one of the dropdowns on the new and FF crashed so the restart start the 7 mowait again.  On the old, I went looking and lo and behold, the Norton toolbar was gone.  So I closed and reopened FF and got the prompt to install the toolbar and now it's there so a little longer before I can report on how they both are cooperating but, seem to remember the old after about 3 hours yesterday timed out as usual and the dropdowns stopped working.  Think I was playing a bit this AM after the new one was on for over 15 hours and the problem was gone the dropdowns working but, want to leave them on and try again later this evening after about 7 more hours to be definitive.

Also the forum appears different today in that I can't quote the post I'm replying to?????

Thanks and more later tonight I hope.

Re: Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

Dave,  FWIW I downloaded the NRT, NSBU (Norton Security with BackUp -version 22), as well as NIS 2012 (v 19.XX.XX) from the Norton Download Center yesterday (around 10 AM CST in preparation for the NIS V 21 move to NSBU) and the downloads were really slow compared to what I am used to for subject downloads. - so it does appear that the Symantec servers were slow.

I did revert back to NIS 2012 regained my Local Vault and then over the top upgraded to NSBU (V 22) on my Win 7 desktop using the downloads.

I then used Norton Management to install NSBU on my laptop (once again over the top of NIS V 21 which had a Local Vault).  The way that works is an email is sent, opened on the other system with a download link for NSBU - and NSBU once again has to be downloaded from the Download Center and on my slightly underpowered Vista laptop seemed to take forever whenever there was any communication with Symantec servers.  The download it self as well as the activation took longer than usual.

Bottom line, the server appeared to be super slow.

Re: Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

Thanks for the update, knew something was extremely slow at Norton but I did need to reinstall to get access to my vault.  Have been having FF issues and just reinstalled that as well.  Pretty sure the new install has fixed the dropdown problems but, strangely left my old laptop that had the problems on all nite and still the dropdowns are working.  Verrrrry strange?????   Actually awhile ago had the same problem result and though the problem was fixed but, working on the computer awhile and they stopped working so am totally confused but, continuing on the new computer all day and see what happens on this one and will report back.  Think it might just be a computer issue on the old one.  Hoping the new one keeps working and reinstalling fixes the strange FF crashes.  Seemed to crash if I tried a dropdown????

Another question, why can we no longer quote the post we want to comment on??????

Re: Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

OK, let me try to explain why you can't quote the post you desire to comment on!

Bottom line is you are probably not doing it the way this crazy forum works.

If you use the "Quote Thread" in the reply block after the last post in the thread, it will "Quote" the original post in the thread.

If you go to the post you desire to quote and select the reply button, then using the Quote Thread button in that reply box will quote the post you selected the Reply button in.

See if that works for you.

Re: Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

Yank, new issue.  Clicking any Norton dropdown is crashing my firefox 34.05 consistantly.  I'd rather the dropdowns not work like before than crashing.  I've found another post from October with no responses for the identical problem.  What's going on??

Thanks,

Dave

Here's another report of FF crashing - I'm not an avid FF user, so I am at a loss.  BTW is this in NS on Win 8?

Re: Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

Clicked reply in your post and did not include your post so still don't understand how to include a previous post.  Found a solution that worked for about an hour and that was to stop hardware acceleration.  Found another fix to change a system file but, try as I might could not get permission to access the system file.  Tried to follow a video of how to gain access and no way it would work.  Might try another way.   This is now happening in Norton 360 in Win 8.1

It even restarts if I click a dropdown to see the different logins.  Similar to last problem, seems to take an hour or two for the problem to manifest itself.  It must be an incompatibility between Norton and FF???  May move to chrome??

Thanks,

Thanks, totally non -intuitive and had been looking for the words quote like they were before.  Now, can anyone help stop Norton from crashing firefox.  I've posted here and may start a new thread and have also posted on Firefox for help.  Very annoying and worse than when the dropdowns would stop working.

Re: Can't Log into Vault or Download remove & Install Tool

Hi Yank,

Am cross posting here as I have also posted the following in my post describing just the latest problem of clicking Norton Toolbar dropdowns as I know you will get a notification about this post.   Hoping that the crash report will help since I did run the corrupt repair program recommended by FF and it found my computer clean with no corrupt files and almost all of the issues are from my Norton Program.

Thanks so much for your previous and future help and I hope I have been a help as well with my trouble shooting and reporting:

Talked to Mozilla (Firefox) and they asked for the crash reports and based on the following had me run a scan for corrupt drivers which I did and the computer had no corrupt drivers so it is now clear that Norton is causing the crashes.  Following is the result of the crash report and hope this can be helpful in providing a fix for my issue or sending to Norton for them to take a look and come up with a fix.

The crash report flagged these programs;

KERNELBASE.dll

ntdll.dll = Microsoft

SymHTML.dll = SymHTML Symantec Corporation

ccL120U.dll = Symantec

IPSEng32.dll = Symantec Intrusion Detection

IPSLdr32.dll = Symantec Intrusion Detection

coWPPlg.dll = Norton Confidential

coFFPl34.dll = Norton Identity Safe

coUICtlr.dll = Norton Identity Safe

Thanks in advance for help,

Dave
