Re: ScanGuard

I would not use ScanGuard or recommend it to anyone.

Downloading program you know nothing about, from a new and unknown company, on a website like Facebook is worse than running your computer without any anti virus software.

Beware this Scanguard software. If you don't purchase the removal tools after it finds multiple problems on your computer it will then take over your computer via the Edge browser and threaten to lock it.

Re: ScanGuard

You cannot at anytime run 2 or more antiviruses in real time. ScanGuard is junk. Why do you feel the need to run 2 antivirus programs? Nevermind that they stole the AVG's layout.

Re: ScanGuard

1. Is that (ScanGuard) you, Spamfighter?

2. "ScanGuard is free to install?" Nope:

3. "FOX NEWS: Computer Owners Urged To Run Scanguard Virus Protection?"

Nope, I don't think so, either.

Please contact Norton Support and/or Norton Virus Protection Promise (recommended) in no time to if you have trouble uninstalling that guard, and/or clean up any other possible mess.

Please post back if this or any other comment solves your problem. THX...

Re: ScanGuard

You asked. We answered. But why is it you wanted to run 2 antiviruses? Did someone tell you that 2 is better then 1? Lol

Re: ScanGuard

Well done bjm_ et al,

My wife drew my attention to this and I downloaded the file before the "offer" deadline ran out, but thought I'd better check here before hitting "go".  Glad I did.

Re: ScanGuard

Re:  Security. My Norton Security needs to be renewed within the next 50-60 days.  Should I stick with the same product or does Norton have a more inclusive product that will give me better protection?  I am an older retired woman who needs some advice.  I was contemplating downloading ScanGuard, but after checking around, I decided not to.  Please advise.  Thanks. rwood1948

Re: ScanGuard

If you are happy with your current Norton product, why not stick with it? All of the Norton Security products, Standard, Deluxe and Premium all offer the exact same protection features for detecting malware and protecting you while on the internet. No need to change. The main difference between the versions is the number of devices you can protect. And the Premium version offers backup features.

Do not install any other security product at the same time as Norton, as that can cause conflicts between the two products, and actually reduce your protection.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: ScanGuard

Interesting conversation that happened here. But yeah, running 2 anti-virus programs is damaging in the most literal sense. It is going to cause a lot of troubles. If you do want to install another security product, your best bet would be some form of anti-malware. Anti-virus and Anti-malware won't clash together in most scenarios.

Re: ScanGuard

Josh - Can you suggest a good anti-malware for me to use?

Re: ScanGuard

Sure! :) So before the answer I want you to be aware of one thing. If infected, you will probably are going to need to scan with more than one anti-malware software. The reason behind it is that all of the anti-malware have slight specializations towards one thing or another, it is very slight, but in extreme situations that sometimes leads to a solution. With that said, I have had experience with the following and I will recommend that they will do the job: Malwarebytes (Biasedly the best), Zemana, AdwCleaner, and Hitman Pro. All of them have been tested in high malware environment and usually clear malware without any issues. But as I have said, in the case of an infection, I recommend a combination of any mentioned anti-malware. Cheers!

Re: ScanGuard

Malwarebytes -- never was a huge fan, but it works (not sure what they are up to now, skeptical of running two real time protections at once regardless of compatibility assurances from the vendor, now if Malwarebytes was testing with Symantec and vise versa that would be different)

Zemana = Comcast constant guard, not going to touch that one.

AdwCleaner -- clean up minor junkware after the fact (not sure about recent changes after changing hands), was very handy.

Hitman Pro -- never tested it due to being trialware.

Re: ScanGuard

To each its own. I know for a fact that all of these work well and did me a great job not only using more than one anti-malware but a full thorough cleanup. Only using one, sometimes doesn't yield the wanted results.

If you are running paid version of Malwarebytes, you don't need another anti-virus and most likely anti-malware. If you are running a free version of Malwarebytes, I am close to a 100% certain that it will work with Symantec's products without any issues.

Re: ScanGuard

Comcast constant guard was one I take issue with. I think a forum user name "yank" would have an opinion on that one.

Malwarebytes w/real-time -- not enough confidence in it to use it instead. Free on demand, should work (didn't they have a major changeup recently with on-demand only mode installation?).
