Weekly Full Scan aborts

We have 4 Windows 10 PC's, all running Windows 10 V1703 with all patches.  We have Norton Security on all 4 PC's.  Recently, our weekly FULL SCAN scan on just ONE of the 4 PC's has started aborting after running for about an hour and twenty minutes.  There is no trace of it in Norton recent history and that PC looks like it has done a "soft restart" the next morning.

Norton Auto-fix finds no problem.  Full scan with Malwarebytes finds no problem.  Full Scan with latest Windows 10 Malicious Software Removal tool finds no problem.  Interactive run of Norton Quick Scan only finds cookies - that's normal.

We got the NS.exe abort information from the Windows 10 reliability monitor.  Here it is:

Description

Faulting application name: NS.exe, version: 15.0.0.80, time stamp: 0x59407d82
Faulting module name: sds_appendix_1_x64.dll, version: 1.5.0.314, time stamp: 0x59ce726b

Any ideas on why this is happening or what we should do next?

Thanks

Re: Weekly Full Scan aborts

Hi Mountain_Bob,

There is a problem with sds_appendix_1_x64.dll version 1.5.0.314.

See this thread:

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-security-crashes-module-sdsappendix1x64dll-during-full-system-scan

If you run LiveUpdate you should get updated to sds_appendix_1_x64.dll version 1.5.0.321 which hopefully will fix your problem.

Re: Weekly Full Scan aborts

I tracked down the folder holding the timestamped subdirectories described in the thread you referenced.  I could see that there was a new directory entry dated/timestamped only 45 minutes before I got the email about your response to my issue.  (And the next newest entry was from July!)  That brand new sub-directory contained the 1.5.0.321 version of the sds_addpendix_1_x64.dll file.  So based on your experiences before and after this file was downloaded by Live Update, I figured I had nothing to lose, so I kicked off a full scan and of course it ran fine!  Thanks for your excellent documentation and sleuthing on this problem.
