Administrative Settings Issue in Windows XP3 Port of NIS

I noticed something today when I was checking the Administrative Settings portion of the latest revision of NIS for Windows 7 and XP3.

Notice in the provided snapshot that the Firefox Cleanup portion is disabled, yet I am using Firefox 52.7.3 (32-bit) ESR. On my Windows 7 box the settings are enabled and that revision of FF is 59.0.2 (64-bit). It's far from a issue for me but I would like to know the actual cause.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Administrative Settings Issue in Windows XP3 Port of NIS

Only guessing here, but although you are using the ESR version of FF, it is still 7 versions behind the current FF release. Norton has be updated to cover all the changes make by Mozilla to the browser.

Add to that your use of XP, and that could be a partial explanation of the problem you are seeing. Have you seen the message about Norton's coverage of XP and Vista systems is changing?  https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-maintenance-mode-windows-x...

Let's hope other XP users can comment here.

Re: Administrative Settings Issue in Windows XP3 Port of NIS

Hi Earthnet:

I use 32-bit FF ESR v52.7.3 on a 32-bit Vista SP2 machine.

For users with the "regular" desktop version of FF v59, the appearance of those Firefox Cleanup settings in the Norton GUI are directly linked your Firefox browser settings at Tools | Options | Privacy | History | Clear History When Firefox Closes | Settings.  See SendOfJive's explanation in the thread Setup, Firefox Cleanup permanently removes a LOT more then only Firefox Temporary Files!! about how these settings affect the clearing of the Cache (a.k.a. temporary files) and Browsing & Download History when you exit your FF browser.

I ran a few tests, and it doesn't make any difference if I uncheck (disable) all the options for browser history clearing in my Firefox ESR as shown below and restart my browser and Norton GUI or if I check (enable) all those options. In both cases, the Firefox Cleanup settings in my Norton GUI never change and always remain greyed out. That's not what I expected so I'm not sure if this is a bug or if the Firefox Cleanup settings in Norton are no longer compatible with FF ESR v52.x as peterweb suspects.

In my opinion, these Firefox Cleanup settings in Norton are unnecessary bloat and I don't know why they were ever added to Norton in the first place.  I always configure my FF browser history cleaning in Firefox (Note:  I normally have all options except Browsing & Download History and Cookies enabled for clearing on exit) and have never used Norton to change these settings.
