Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

Quite frequently when I go to open my vault I unable to do so without signing into norton first and this is the problem.

I want to use the password manager and let it pick my passwords which I can't and shouldn't need to remember.  This should be done by the manager.

When I go to my vault and it is one of those time I need to sign in to norton I won't know the password which is in my vault but not accessable.

I realize I can go through the lost password routine but this gets old.

How does everyone hand this?

Thanks

Hello

This KB article may help you out. The Norton Account password is the one password you should keep in a safe place.

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

I don't have any problem remebering the password for the password manager.  It the Norton one that I use less frequently.  Then I go through the lost password and picking one that wasn't the last one and then not using it again for a month, and then etc etc

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

Hello

Please write down the password for your Norton Account some where safe. Then you will be able to use the Password Manager for the rest of your sites.

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

I think the OP means that he has to sign into his account every time he first uses password manager - I suspect this is with IE 11. For years I have normally stayed logged in to my account, unless something changes in the system, but now every day I have to log in again (only with IE, not Chrome - another issue here as you have to log into Password Manager every time you restart Chrome!!). This is new behaviour - is it a planned change and if so why?

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

I'm having the same problem as you except no problems with Chrome. Mine doesn't work for IE 11. I have to open Norton and sign out of my account then sign back in before I can get to my password manager to login so basically I have to enter two passwords before I can open my vault. If I click on password manager only it will ask for my account password first, then I will get an error message telling me there is a problem, It's been doing this for the past two weeks, Chrome and Edge work fine for me, Just letting you know that you are not alone

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

Thank you Poppy.

How embarrassing - I didn't realise there were now Norton extensions for Edge

I will give it a try

edit:

OK, as with Chrome, I have to re-log into Password Manager each time Edge is run.

OK, as with Chrome, I have to re-log into Password Manager each time Edge is run.

And that is probably the way it is going to be going forward. That is how the vault works for Firefox, Chrome, and Edge with their separate browser extensions. Norton says they are doing this for Security reasons.

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

Still no comment on IE11 - why do I first have to log in to my Symantec Account BEFORE the password manager?

Not exactly the same question as the OP asked. But I have asked your other thread be escalated to try to get some explanation of the change.

OK Thank you.

I think it is the same question, just expressed differently.

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

Thanks Peterweb. For the past 2 or 3 weeks, I have to log out of my Norton account then log back in to the account before I can get to my Vault to enter that password. My problem is with IE 11 and when I open Norton to access password manager from there.

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

Me too

Isnt the purpose of using a password manager that you need only remember ONE password and can make all others ultra secure

So i made Norton account password Secure and stored it inside password manager vault

At the moment i seem to be able to direct to Vault password access via PC/chrome extension.

But the Android App wants my Norton account password, first and thats inside my Vault!

So do i need to remember 2 passwords? My Norton Vault password as well as my normal Norton account? - Isnt this defeating the purpose.

However as im new to this product am i missing something?

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

Occasionally, for security reasons, you will get logged out of your Norton Account in Norton apps. So, yes, you do have to remember 2 passwords to be able to access your vault.

Occasionally - that's fine - every time (as with IE11) - not fine

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

I guess my question has been answered.  It just doesn't seem right that you need to write a password down to insure you will be able to get to your vault.  I guess I should remember it but it's not required that frequently and I'm old.

Tx all

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

Ok i have also trialled what are considered the leading free password managers - and they didnt need two passwords

Think ill pass on norton and go with an alternative. I only chose as i already had antivirus which ive stayed without more out of loyalty but clearly their product design here is poor and having my password manager linked to other my security offers little extra benefit it seems only drawbacks.

I agree. And that is why I have asked for some information about this apparent change to the process for IE.

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

I used to be able to sign into Password Manager w/o having to sign into Norton each time first. That was excellent. Now I must remember TWO passwords NOT ONE, as advertised.  Is there a way to correct this?  I'd like to only have to remember ONE password.  Thank you for any help you can offer.

Writing down ANY password is a BAD suggestion.  Seriously?  Let's get this fixed correctly.  Thnks for consideration.

I can only ask the questions. I cannot force a reply. I have asked again.

And of course, now we are going into the holiday season, so not sure when we can expect a reply to this request.

Re: Signing in to Norton without Password Manager

this is happening on my win7 64 bit computer also for a while. you have to log into your account, then sign into your vault. if you leave your computer on for too long it says the vault is open but it doesn't auto fill passwords and you get a error for password not saved. If you try to look up a password from the toolbar drop down box it give a blank drop down box. this is on ie11. no problems on chrome or mobile
